(Introduction) 'This is a special issue of TypoGraphic, the STD journal, to showcase the work from successful entrants to the sTD International TypoGraphic Awards 1996. This the third time that we have held these awards; the last two being held in 1994 and 1991. The Awards are held as an appraisal of current standards in typographic design; the criteria being that good typography is an intrinsic element of the design solution.

The call for entries went out in September 95 and the deadline for entries was at the end of January 96. This year over 400 entries were received, representing work from 23 countries including Taiwan, Puerto Rico and Slovenia; validating the endorsement of ICOGRADA, International Council of Graphic Design Associations, that the awards are recognized as truly international...'
