(Preface) 'This is the first book to be published on magazine design in any language. It aims to show, chiefly by illustrations, the best current magazine practice. The illustrations are drawn from magazines produced in the United States, Great Britain, France, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, and Sweden, mainly during the past ten years. The illustrations are arranged in the following main divisions: covers; contents pages (various solutions to a specific problem); sequences of pages (showing that magazines are planned as a whole, not as isolated pages); the use of colour (with 16 pages of colour reproductions of magazine covers and inside pages); and special problems, under which are included: multilingual layouts; typographical and pictorial headings; the use of photographs; radio and TV magazines; religious and other low cost and/or small circulation magazines; restylings and comparisons; and trade and house journals. In all there are nearly 300 pages of reproductions illustrating over 150 magazines...'
