Cut was a photographic collection by Richard Morrison documenting degraded and distressed poster hoardings photographed around the world. The images captured torn, weathered and layered remnants of advertising, transforming accidental combinations of colour, typography, texture and decay into striking abstract compositions. Published in 2001, the book was presented as a ‘flip book’, with additional sections featuring imagery from title sequences Morrison created for films including High Fidelity, Another Life, Metropolis and Circus. The Cut photographs were subsequently exhibited at Chelsea Arts Club in 2004, where large-scale prints were sold. The publication offered an intriguing study of urban decay, found graphics and the unexpected visual qualities created by time and neglect.
