(Introduction) 'This book is a collection of ampersands. It's a book about partnership, in two parts. The first is a miscellany of ampersands created for clients, from studio projects and workshops over the last ten years. These are interspersed with naturally occurring ampersands found in the world around us. Ampersands formed of string, rubber bands and ribbons. Unintentional glyphs spotted in the studio, on walls, or in nature. Collaborations with coincidence. The more we look, the more we see they are all around us. The second chapter is a cast of characters created by studio collaborators of all kinds. Collaboration, literally meaning 'working together', was written into our studio name from the start. It seemed fitting to invite collaborators to add their perspective, from the other side of the ampersand.'
