Small archive relating to the important Dutch graphic designer, typographer and educator Jurriaan Schrofer (1926–1990). The group centres on his 1984 solo exhibition of paper reliefs at the Gemeentemuseum Arnhem and includes: the original newspaper feature from NRC Handelsblad, his personal Arnhem studio postcard with geometric experiments, the exhibition text sheet, a square experimental type specimen in geometric outline letterforms, and a Linotype presentation slide. A focused and attractive snapshot of Schrofer’s late experimental and educational work.

1. Newspaper cutting – NRC Handelsblad, 27 January 1984. Full interview by Janneke Wesseling about Jurriaan Schrofer’s first free-work exhibition of paper reliefs based on poems by J.C. van Schagen, held at Gemeentemuseum Arnhem (11 Feb–25 March 1984). Discusses his design philosophy and recent departure as Academy director.

2. Exhibition handout – Double-sided exhibition handout for the 1984 Gemeentemuseum Arnhem show. Contains the source poems and philosophical texts (including Me-ti/Brecht quotations) that inspired Schrofer’s paper reliefs, plus explanatory notes.

3. Postcard – Small white card with two precise geometric grid constructions on the front. Reverse embossed with Schrofer’s Arnhem studio details: Beekstraat 88, 6811 DZ Arnhem, telephone 085-420611. Personal stationery from his late-1970s/early-1980s period.

4. Text specimen – Square kraft sheet printed with an experimental geometric outline typeface. Modular, straight-line letterforms spelling a short Dutch/English text. Classic example of Schrofer’s “letters op maat” formal investigations into letter structure and grids.
