Compiled by the Society of Industrial Artists. (Preface) Designers In Britain was first produced as a biennial publication in 1947 and this is the sixth number to be published. It is a comprehensive review of the best work of members of the Society of Industrial Artists and is unique in its coverage of every branch of practice by designers in this country. The Society itself has the distinction of being the only professional body in the world which covers all aspects of industrial and graphic design in one organisation, and, for those who believe in the ultimate unity of all design activity, this fact will be a source of satisfaction pointing towards greater integration of all the arts and skills. It is a good thing sometimes to look over the past years and assess progress ; to try and see where we have been and where we are heading. Designers In Britain gives us that opportunity and, although there has been a gap of 5 years since the last number, this perhaps may not be a bad thing, as it will make comparisons stronger and trends more easily recognisable.
