out: This is the checklist for the exhibition Claes Oldenburg at the Museum of Modern Art September 25 to November 23, 1969. 50,000 copies printed for The Museum of Modern Art, New York. Supplement to the Claes Oldenburg monograph by Barbara Rose, the first comprehensive treatment of Oldenburg's life and art.

"Best known as the creator of "soft" sculptures and "giant"objects, and as the author of a series of imaginary projects for colossal monuments set in specific sites, Claes Oldenburg has observed the everyday scene in many localities with a laconic detachment that does not inhibit his characteristics of satire and humor."

"The works are grouped in categories according to their themes, which succeed one another in roughly chronological order; however, the various categories tend to overlap somewhat in date. Within each group, the arrangement is in order of the making of each piece, according to information supplied by the artist, who has also advised on the titles. Certain drawings related to specific works are shown with them. The majority, however, are exhibited in the Paul J. Sachs Gallery on the third floor of the Museum, where a number of notebook pages (uncatalogued), ranging in date from 1954 to 1969, are also shown unmounted in cases."

Good condition: rubbing to covers, light bumps to corners, folded in half with slight tanning to the pages. Please contact me should you have any further questions about condition.
