About: 100 Jahre Helvetia Feuer St. Gallen - Commemorative book of the Centenary 1861 – 1962, Helvetia Swiss Fire Insurance Company in St Gall. 1963 winner of the "most beautiful Swiss books" award. Foreword: “This volume is published to mark the centenary of the Helvetia Swiss Fire Insurance Company in St.Gall. It is a Commemorative Book in the sense that the motives for its publication are the pride and gratitude we feel in viewing in retrospect a hundred years of achievement and mutual confidence. Yet this book may be said to differ from other similar publications in that it does not record the successive stages of this century of history or chronicle the biography of a company. And why not? The reason is that every year brings forth a crop of voluminous, comprehensive and academically sound mono-graphs on Swiss concerns, particularly at the present mid-century when many firms are reaching a point in their history when they can look back to their foundation during the company-floating boom in Switzerland a hundred years ago. Taken all together, they present an instructive and virtually complete picture of the economic development of our country. The sources of data on economic history have thus been thrown open, and the Swiss business community has shown that it appreciates the work of the economic (and hence social) historian."
