Catalog of an exhibition held 1/7 - 20/8/89 at the Museum Boymans-Van Beuningen.
(Foreword) 'Amidst the overwhelming variety and diversity of studio work ceramics of the second half of the twentieth century, there are fortunately some outstanding landmarks of concepts and styles to serve as mile-posts for the viewing audience.
Ever since this Museum's exhibition of contemporary ceramics in 1953 — the first in a series showing diverse aspects of modern ceramics — Museum Boymans-van Beuningen has consistently featured some of the beacons in this field. Presently we draw attention to the English artist Gordon Baldwin who was preceded in Rotterdam by his fellow country-men such as Bernard Leach, Hans Coper, Lucie Rie and Ruth Duckworth, illustrious representatives of venerable traditions as well as trail-blazers for new ways.' Wim Crouwel, Director
