'Danish furniture design reached a culmination in the fifties and sixties with work by figures such as Berge Mogensen, Hans J. Wegner, Finn juhl, Ole Wanscher, and Kaare Klint, but found its most serene form in creations by Poul Kjærholm. The goal of "making form a part of function" was expressed uncompromisingly in all of Kjærholm's work. It was a process of purification, a catharsis, in which all superfluities were peeled away and the pure utilitarian form emerged so clearly that it became a type not confined in time, timeless. His use of materials — steel, leather, cane, glass, etc. — was taken to perfection. No detail was accidental; everything helped clarify the structural concept. It is obvious what parts bear and what are borne, and the joints are eminently logical. Foreword by Jorn Utzon. Photographs by Keld Helmer-Peterson. Richly illustrated in b/w and colour.'
